The governing parties ÖVP and SPÖ as well as the FPÖ have voted a motion to amend the Tyrolean hunting law in the February meeting of the state parliament. This would allow “harmful and high-risk wolves to be shot quickly and unbureaucratically by decree”.
Instead of the current multi-stage procedure (expert curatorship, endangerment decree, removal order), the Tyrolean provincial government could in the future directly issue an endangerment decree and remove harmful or high-risk wolves “under certain conditions for shooting in a defined area for a certain period of time”.
The planned shooting permit by ordinance lacks participation rights and control powers. There is also no right of appeal, which is not in line with EU law.
